After a couple of years waiting, the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup is finally ready to make its debut at the TT Circuit Assen, the venue hosting the fourth round of what has been so far an incredible 2021 edition of the series. The Dutch Grand Prix is once again a brand-new challenge for the MotoE riders, who never turned wheels at the iconic circuit aboard their Energica Ego Corsa machines before.
But there is one rider who did, back in 2018: the official test rider Alessandro Brannetti, who is back with the Energica staff after missing the opening three rounds due to injury, had tested the Ego Corsa at Assen in preparation for the first-ever MotoE season the following year. His deep knowledge of Energica’s race machine at the track will be invaluable for the MotoE stars, who have frequently asked him for advice throughout the years.
This fourth race of the year is shaping up to be a crucial one in the quest for the ultimate prize. Leading the way is still Alessandro Zaccone (OCTO Pramac MotoE), but the young Italian has seen his lead narrowed down to one single point as Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt IntactGP) stepped us his game thanks to his usual incredible consistency in terms of results – despite missing on a race win since the first race at Misano in 2020.
Current reigning title holder Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40) is still well in contention for the title, being ten points away from the lead, while Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) has massively improved his chances after winning in spectacular fashion in his home race at Montmeló two weekends ago. Mattia Casadei (Ongetta Sic58 Squadracorse) and Eric Granado (One Energy Racing) will need an important result after their DNF at the Catalan Grand Prix as they currently sit fifth and sixth in the standings 21 and 26 points adrift, respectively.
MotoE action will get underway this Friday at 11:50 for Free Practice 1, with the E-Pole scheduled for Saturday at 16:10 and the race on Sunday at 15:30 local time (GMT +2).
