ENERGICA AND AEGERTER A PERFECT MATCH IN E-POLE AT JEREZ; FERRARI AND TULOVIC COMPLETE THE FRONT ROW
A thrilling E-pole was witnessed today at Jerez de la Frontera to determine the starting grid for the second FIM Enel MotoE World Cup race of 2020. Aboard his Energica Ego Corsa #77, series rookie Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt IntactGP) did not disappoint. After leading the way in free practice – which made him the last rider to take to the track for the one-lap pole position attempt – he put together a smooth but extremely effective lap in 1’48.158secs.
Aegerter will be joined on the front row by the ever-consistent MotoE title holder Matteo Ferrari (Team Trentino Gresini MotoE) and by German rider Lukas Tulovic (Team Tech 3 E-Racing) who just like last week made a huge difference in qualifying after a lacklustre performance in free practice – he was tenth overall after FP3.
Row two will be led by current series leader Eric Granado (Avintia Esponsorama Racing), whose lap was hampered by a brace of close calls when he asked for the power too quickly. Despite those small mistakes, the Brazilian was only 0.051secs shy of a front-row start. Jordi Torres (Pons Racing 40) and fellow Spaniard Alejandro Medina (OpenBank Aspar Team) were fifth and sixth, respectively, with San Marino’s Alex De Angelis (OCTO Pramac MotoE) and Italians Mattia Casadei (Ongetta SIC58 Squadracorse) and Niccolò Canepa (LCR E-Team) seventh, eighth and ninth. De Angelis’s teammate Josh Hook rounded out the top ten.
Two riders saw their laps cancelled for different reasons: Maria Herrera (OpenBank Aspar Team) exceeded track limits on her flying lap, while Tommaso Marcon (Tech 3 E-Racing) made a rookie mistake as he failed to join the track during the mandatory five-second window – something that happened to Herrera herself a year ago!
The second encounter of the 2020 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup will get underway tomorrow at 10:05 local time (GMT +2).
